UNF Independent Study

In 2002, a unique and vital partnership was established between the University of North Florida, Department of Art and Student Design, and Art With A Heart For Children. By creating a Directed Independent Study course, both institutions have a bridge connecting us to the community we serve. Students are carefully chosen based on their artistic integrity, emotional maturity, and interpersonal skills. These students complete a hospital orientation and training, go through medical and background checks, and are expected to perform within the hospital policies and procedures.

"There has never been a student who has not lived up to the expectations and standards required by our program, nor have I ever heard of a student whose life and artistic perspective was not altered as a result of this experience." -- Lori Guadagno

We are proud to make this very unique opportunity, providing real world experience to students in our community. The importance of art in the field of healthcare is dramatically changing, and we are pleased to be a part of this progressive shift. As a result of this program, many more children are able to participate in our program.
