A local nonprofit is making sure that children battling an illness inside a hospital get the tools they need to find their inner artist. Even though the artist behind Art with a Heart in Healthcare can't meet in person, the organization is helping children heal during the pandemic.

Art with a Heart in Healthcare (AWAHIH) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to arts and healing. Six days a week, AWAHIH’s team of Artists-in-Residence, volunteers, and interns provide personalized, fine art sessions to patients and their families at the hospital bedside, in outpatient clinic waiting rooms, and in inpatient hospital playrooms.
AWAHIH offers free virtual art sessions for Children
The Let’s Make Art program supports the need for creative activities while young patients are sheltering-in-place at home or in the hospital during the COVID 19 pandemic, and other times when they need to stay indoors.The online art program and art-to-go care bag projects are in place providing fine art experiences while enhancing the healing process for homebound children, and patients and families in the hospital.
Children with a serious illness are coping with an even greater struggle during the coronavirus pandemic. Art with a Heart in Healthcare offers free virtual, interactive art sessions, coloring pages, music and storytelling.
Animal-Gamation: Art with a Heart in Healthcare at MOCA
For this exhibition, each artist started with a question "If you could create your own animal, what would it look like?" In answering, each patient rendered his or her own unique artwork, exploring their personalities, stories, and identities in an animal form on collaged canvas.
Raven, 18-year-old patient, worked with Art With a Heart in Healthcare (AWAHIH) program at Wolfson, during which an artist worked one-on-one with him to help him outwardly express his inner traits by channeling his creativity into a collage on canvas.
Battling cancer with art, Jacksonville area kids' art displayed at MOCA
AWAHIH's artist-in-residence Dylan Bauer custom painted 16 shovels for BMC's groundbreaking event honoring the future seven-story building that will serve as the new "front door" to Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville and feature a five-floor Wolfson Children's Critical Care Tower.
Comfort through Creativity Six days a week, the 501c3 nonprofit “Art with a Heart in Healthcare” transforms playrooms throughout Wolfson Children’s Hospital into art studios, safe spaces where a child can momentarily forget his or her illness or ailment.
